Ferret Poetry!

Oh my!  Yes, we even have people who write poetry about ferrets.  I don't have the talent for it, but I sure do enjoy reading other folks words...  Texas enough for you???  If you have the creative bone in your body and have a "ferret" related poem, send it to me, I'll review it and will post it if I find it worthy....  Please send only your original works.  I will not post anything without the original author's permission.  christinna@txferretrescue.org

ODE TO THE RESCUE FERRET

They come to our care,
With their bodies too frail to bear.
Their hearts longing for love,
Seeking peace for their soul’s above.

Those poor nameless ones,
Who were left alone to roam.
Their only wish,
To be truly known.

Some have given up,
They’ve lost the will to live.
While others hang on,
With all they have to give.

Each one is unique,
Special in their own way.
Some will take our love,
Going on to live another day.
Others will treasure it,
Finding comfort at last.

Any who come into our care,
Will find more love than they can bear.
Those who crossed the bridge to transcend,
Were loved until their hearts could mend.
This love is true and strong enough,
Through eternity to last.
Allowing them to forgive,
Forgetting their terrible past.

Some are miracles,
Who just won’t quit.
They pay your love back,
Every little bit.

You nurse them all day and night,
Helping them through their mighty fight.
Finally they emerge on the other side,
They are able to dance with eyes open wide.

Your love they will always remember,
As they become someone’s new family member.
For without you he would no longer be,
He leaves you with one final plea.

I promise to remember,
Your compassion,
Your love,
What you did for me.
All I ask is that you do the same,
And remember me,
By my rescue name.

Now that I'm home, bathed, settled and fed,

all nicely tucked in my warm bed,

I'd like to open my baggage Lest I forget,

There is so much to carry- So much to regret.

Hmmm... Yes there it is, right on the top,

Let's unpack Loneliness, heartache and loss,

and there by my carrier hides Fear and Shame.

As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave-

I still have to unpack my baggage called Pain.

I loved them, the others,

the ones who left me,

but I wasn't good enough -

for they didn't want me.

Will you add to my baggage?

Will you help me unpack?

Or will you just look at my things-

and take me right back?

Do you have the time to help me unpack?

To put away my baggage,

To never repack?

I pray that you do -

I'm so tired you see,

But I do come with baggage -

Will you still want me?
