Foster's Needing Your Support!

"You can judge a society by the way it treats its animals" - Gandhi

Most of the ferrets that are surrendered to us are of adoptable age and health.  But some are either too old or have illnesses that make them "undesirable" to others.  Since we are a NO KILL SHELTER, we place these ferrets in a safe, loving, forever foster home to live out the rest of their lives as comfortably as we can make it.  The cost of supporting these ferrets have grown beyond our expectations simply because they are living longer as a result of better care and a greater understanding of the different types of diseases.  Please consider sponsoring one (or more) of our fosters to help pay for their medical needs.  You can donate two ways, you can mail a check directly to our rescue at:

Texas Ferret Lover's Rescue (TxFLR)
P.O. Box 800503
Balch Springs, TX 75180

or you can send money using PayPal by clicking the DONATE button on the left of this page.  Here are a few of our needy fosters.

ROSS AND CHACO

Ross- Beautiful stocky alpha male. He loves all ferrets and often seeks out the sad or sick ferrets and cuddles with them. He is sleeping with Chaco here because Chaco’s allergies where making him feel bad. Ross has Adrenal Disease and requires a shot once a month. He is 5 ½ years old.

Chaco- This beautiful sweet and playful little boy has a rare immune deficiency called Pemphegus. He requires large doses of medications twice a day. If he goes longer them 12 hours without medication his face and throat starts to swell. He is very playful on his good days and even is bad days. He is doing well on his medications. He is 1 ½ years old. #

Monthly vet bill for each:

Ross                       Chaco
$15.00                   $20.00~

Winchester

A unique character that strongly dislikes other ferrets but loves his people. He is mostly bald and 6 years old but that doesn’t hold him back. Winchester stops eating when he feels he is not being loved enough and enjoys showing off especially for strangers. He chuckles the whole time he is awake and is always making weird noises that you don’t normally hear coming from a ferret. Winchester is full of life and unfortunately may soon have to be switched to a more expensive medication for his Insulinoma because he is getting bacterial infections related to his current medication. He also receives monthly treatment for his adrenal tumors which will help grow back that hair!

Monthly Treatment and Meds: $25.00

BISHOP (the sock thief)

When Bishop came to us he was naked everywhere with the exception of his legs and a crown of fur on the top of his head. He look like he was a drunk naked Russian who only remembered to put is furry boots and hat on before he went out in the snow. He has adrenal tumors and is too old for the surgery. He has additional prostate problems caused by the tumors that require a very expensive medication every month. Bishop is the first ferret that we have ever had to consider putting down due to finances. We don’t want him to suffer; but without the medication (that we cannot afford) his is very uncomfortable. When he has the medication he plays and plays and plays with the other boys. His favorite hobby is stealing freshly cleaned balled up socks and adding them to his “stash” under is bed. If you cannot afford to pay a full month for Bishop we would appreciate any partial donations to keep him happy and healthy. He is 5 ½ years old. He has a bulldog physique and is very cuddly. There is no other like Bishop

Treatment every three weeks: >$15.00
Medication per month: $181.00

BLITZ (albino)

It is very hard to get a good picture of Blitz. He is a 6 year old with an abundance of energy. He keeps up with ferrets 5 years younger. I could only catch him with the camera while he was sleeping or eating. He loves his best friends: Chaco, Jimbo, Justin and Stewy, He has adrenal disease and requires a shot once a month to keep him healthy and happy. He was naked when we got him and his hair grew in yellow…which sometimes happens with the Albino ferrets who have to have Lupron shots. This wonderful boy has a great time at his foster home. He is not much of a snuggler but he loves to pounce on the back of his foster mommy’s legs so she will chase him around in game of tag. The picture on the far right is him sleeping with his buddies: Justin Chaco Bishop Jimbo then Blitz.

Monthly treatment: $15.00

PUREX (PRINCESS TATER TOT)

This little compact muscular pistol is quite an adventure. Her picture here was directly after she had a glandular tumor removed from her neck. You can see that ”what exactly happened while I was asleep” look on her face. She is 5 and decided a long time ago that her foster mommy’s bed is now exclusively a “Purex Bed”. She now has to be caged at night while her foster mommy sleeps; otherwise she finds a way into the room and scratches her foster mommy’s legs and back until she can have the bed to herself. She is completely deaf and screams bloody murder anytime she plays and it is very evident she has no idea what she sounds like. She has Adrenal tumors and is Insulinoma. She requires oral medications twice a day and treatment at the vet once a month. She is happy and full of life and we would like her to stay that way for as long as she can. Please help this Princess.

Monthly Treatment and Meds- $20.00

STITCH

Yes, there once was a Lelo…but his woman passed on. Stitch has Adrenal tumors and is Insulinoma. He is a wonderful boy at 6 years old. He came to us with terrible deep scabs all over his coat and he itched terribly. He requires oral medication twice a day and treatments at the vet once a month. Since his treatment and meds started working he is a very happy and healthy boy in his foster home. He was raised on fast food so it took a long time to get him on a healthy diet and get is lustrous coat back. But still, if he is being stubborn…. A French fry will work every time. He likes McDonald's.

Treatment and Medications Costs per month: $20.00
STEWY

This little guy is a ball of atomic energy! We have recently found that he has at least one Adrenal Tumor that needs to be removed. He is running rampant at his temporary foster home, giving all the boys a run for their money. He thinks Purex (she is deaf so she screams at everything, not knowing how loud it sounds) is his personal squeaky toy, and he thinks it is hilarious. He is young enough to be adopted to a permanent home just as soon as he has his surgery and is recovered.

Surgery: approx $125.00
Until we can afford surgery his month treatment is: $15.00

JOEY

This beautiful little boy has a curled back foot from a birth defect. He loves life. He keeps up with the rest and takes his meds like a champ. He loves to cuddle and wrestle with the other boys. He has Adrenal Tumors and Insulinoma. He has a shot once a month for the Adrenal Disease and he takes his medication for his Insulinoma mixed in turkey baby food. He is soooo loved. He deserves the best and we hope to give it to him for his many years to come. He is 5 years old. How can anyone not fall in love with this little cuddle bug.

Treatment per month: $15.00
Medication per month: $5.00

FARRAH

5 years old., sickly, repeated infections.
Farrah is the most curious ferret I have had the pleasure to love. She simply adores stuffed animals. I put a pile of stuffies in the middle of the living room floor. My children and I are so amused watching her take each, one by one, and place them in her favorite hiding spots. She is fantastic with the kids (8yrs and 2yrs). Her favorite time is when I come home from grocery shopping. She loves exploring the various bags. She is simply tickled by the sounds of the plastic bags. Farrah would be a great addition to anyone's home as she has brought love and laughter to mine. –from her foster MOM

Basic Care per month: $5.00

HONOR

Honor has come to us completely naked. He has advanced Adrenal tumors and needs Lupron shots every 4 weeks so he can grow his hair back. He is a little oinker, he loves to eat and loves to cuddle. We will be looking for a permanent foster home for him as soon as he grows his hair back. There is something about these hairless ferrets. They give the most love and warmth. We hope to provide him with health and happiness for the rest of his life.

Monthly Treatment + Meds: $20.00

JIMBO

Jimbo and Julie came to us completely naked. Julie passed away shortly after they were surrendered due to cancer. Jimbo was almost lost to the depression that often happens when they lose their friends. But the boys (Ross, Chaco, Justin) quickly rallied around him and lifted his spirits so he pulled through and has been on Adrenal treatment for around 8 months now. He is too old to have surgery but the monthly Lupron shots are working wonderfully for him. He loves to play with is friends and with his foster Mommy. His Mommy can get him to do anything she wants as long as he knows there is a treat in her hand. HE LOOOOOVVVVES HIS TREATS! He has a beautiful new coat and always trots everywhere like he's a little child skipping to the park. We love him so much.

Monthy Treatment: $15.00

FLASH

This little guy is also a new naked addition. He is not young enough to have his adrenal tumors removed but he just started his monthly Lupron shots and we should start seeing some hair growth soon. We can tell from his hair on his face he will be a beautiful Cinnamon and White ferret. He came to us with a badly healed break in one of his back legs and while he is a little slow getting around he has no problem rough housing with the boys. All you have to do is hold this little guy to know he is beautiful with or without hair. He is one of the few ferrets we have know that is not only a big rough houser but loves to cuddle in his foster moms arms and sleep heavily after an afternoon of play. He has a fun and happy life ahead with your help.

Monthly Treatment: $15.00

BOOHOO (AKA BOO)

This beautiful little darling came to us with his cage mate Max. Max was very ill and died before we could even get him to the vet the next day. Boo fell into a terrible depression. His blood sugar dipped critically low and he had to spend the night at the vet on IV fluids and glucose. He had to be hand fed for over 6 weeks before he would start eating on his own. He went from 2.75 pounds to less then one pound. He is finally back to his own self, gaining weight and his foster Mom says he is very much a Momma’s Boy and cuddles with her in the bed every night. He has Insulinoma and requires medication twice a day for the rest of his life. He such a beautiful inquisitive sweetheart. Please extend his happy life with your help.

Monthly Medication: $8.00
AGNES

This beautiful stocky little girl is a joy in her Foster Mommy’s life. She has Adrenal disease; but this scrappy little girl, who doesn’t like other ferrets, has no problem letting them know when they pounce on her. She is having a blast in her retirement years and she can hop around entertaining herself for hours. She is one of the few little girls in her foster home, amongst many boys and she has no problems making her presence known. Her adrenal disease makes her very itchy and she loves it when Mommy gives her a good scratch and rubs her Cortisone-10 on her itchy skin. It’s a wonderful message.

Monthly Treatment: $17.00

Nikki (Nicodemus)

Nikki came to the shelter because of a golf ball size tumor that had been allowed to grow on his back. His previous owner claimed that the addition of a puppy left her too distracted to notice the gigantic growth. The shelter took custody of Nikki and after the removal of the tumor found out that he also had Insulinoma and is Adrenal. Nikki is 6 years old and now enjoys a life where he is loved and noticed all day everyday. Nikki’s favorite game is running through the tunnels because he has weak hind legs and can play like an equal with the younger ferrets this way. He also enjoys eating baby food when he gets his medication and sleeping in the biggest hammock in the cage.

Monthly Treatment and Meds: $20.00
Gizmo

Look at this adorable “Disco Boy”. He requires a lot of treatment for Insulinoma and Adrenal disease; but he could not be happier and more playful then if he had no ailments at all. We would love to be able to keep him that way but we need your help. Even a partial donation would help greatly with our costs. Gizmo is on Prednisone and gets Lupron shots monthly, as well as getting a Melatonin Implant about every 3-4 months.

Monthly Treatments and Meds: $35.00

SKITZ

His personality is a lot like his name. He was a mess when he came to us, much like a crack addict who just entered rehab. He is wonderful playful little man who has a completely new coat of hair. He plays like a ferret many years younger and is a constant source of entertainment. And with all this energy and vigor you would never guess Skitz is deaf.

Monthly Treatment and Meds: $17.00
